Reading, MA – The final touches were applied by Nauset Construction at The Postmark, a mixed-use complex developed by DiBiase Homes and Matrix Property Group.
Nauset built 50 luxury residential units – which were 90% pre-sold – and preserved the facade of the historic 1918 U.S. Post Office while transform the century-old building in 8,000 square feet of commercial space which will include a restaurant on the ground floor.
Located at the junction of Haven and Sanborn streets, in the heart of Reading’s bustling downtown business district, The Postmark is a short walk from the MBTA Commuter Rail Haverhill line.
The development team and O’Sullivan Architects of Reading worked closely with the Historical Commissions of Massachusetts and Reading to create a design that preserves the Georgian Neo-Renaissance facade and Corinthian columns, as well as the curved exterior stairs at the main entrance. The contemporary-style five-story residential addition was constructed using a combination of brick and stone at the base, clapboard siding, and wood detailing to replicate the classic character of the original post office. One- and two-bedroom condominiums feature open floor plans, designer-designed luxury finishes, an abundance of natural light, and energy-efficient appliances. The owners enter the Postpark through a dedicated and professionally landscaped courtyard and have access to a large common leisure area, a private gym and a large roof terrace reserved for residents located at 5e penthouse level floor.
Nauset Construction’s extensive experience in historic renovation projects and expertise in building mid-size multi-family projects in busy downtown locations have been critical to the success of the project. “The postmark showcases two of Nauset Construction’s greatest strengths – urban infill multi-family construction and the thoughtful restoration and reallocation of historically significant structures,” said Anthony Papantonis, President of Nauset Construction.
DiBiase Homes has extensive experience in licensing, developing and constructing new residential homes for sale throughout the Greater Boston area. “The postmark offers the new owners a unique level of luxury city living, in a classic suburban downtown, while embracing and restoring the iconic architectural character of the original US post office of 1918,” said Paul DiBiase, President and CEO of DiBiase Homes.
